Abstract

This study examines how certain members of society recognize negative consequences of excessive technology exposure and undertake deliberate efforts to limit digital device usage. Using a qualitative literature review method, this research synthesizes theoretical arguments from psychology, media sociology, and public health. Findings indicate that awareness emerges through boundary experiences such as digital fatigue, relational conflicts, or physical symptoms. This awareness is strengthened by exposure to alternative narratives about life without constant connectivity. Resistance to hyperconnectivity manifests in various digital detox strategies including gradual reduction, rule based restrictions, and temporary total cessation. Success depends on personality factors, initial motivation, social pressure, and availability of meaningful alternative activities. Failure often results from unrealistic expectations and all or nothing thinking patterns. Digital detox contains political dimensions as resistance against attention extraction business models and surveillance normalization. Restoring personal agency represents the most significant benefit of this practice.
